About Lower Township

Lower Township is the big mainland township that wraps the southern end of the Cape May peninsula — stretching from the Delaware Bay across to the ocean, and holding most of the year-round population down here. It's the settled, more affordable counterpart to the resort boroughs, and worth understanding up front: Lower Township surrounds but does not include Cape May City, West Cape May, and Cape May Point, which are their own separate boroughs. What's left is a broad mix of bayshore neighborhoods, interior communities, and one ocean-side enclave.

Those pieces each have their own feel. On the bay are Villas and North Cape May, where the Cape May–Lewes Ferry lands and the Delaware Bay beaches face into the sunset. Inland sit Erma — home to the Cape May Airport and the NAS Wildwood aviation museum — and Cold Spring, with its historic village.
