Dresden Downs Homes for Sale

1979 four-bedroom homes on two cul-de-sac streets off Jarvis Road — live from the MLS.

Living in Dresden Downs

Dresden Downs is a small detached neighborhood in Gloucester Township, built in 1979 off Jarvis Road in the northern end of the township. The whole community went up in a single year, and it is compact enough that people who live here know the whole of it — which is not something most buyers in this township can say about their own street.

The layout is unusual and worth understanding before you search. Dresden Downs sits on two streets that do not connect — Dresden Court on the north side of Jarvis Road, and Mary Ellen Lane on the south. Both are cul-de-sacs. So the community straddles Jarvis rather than occupying one pocket, which means a map search drawn around one street will miss half of it, and it also means neither street carries any through traffic at all. Anyone driving onto Dresden Court or Mary Ellen Lane is going to a house on it.

The houses are the interesting part. These are three- and four-bedroom multi-level homes — contemporaries, colonials and splits — and the defining feature is what sits on the lower level. A few steps down from the main living area you get a full family room with a fieldstone fireplace, a fourth bedroom, and a full bathroom, with the laundry and interior access to the garage on the same level. That is a complete second living zone under the same roof, with its own bath, and it is the reason these homes come up repeatedly in conversations about extended family, an adult child staying put, a live-in parent, or anyone who needs a private space for long-staying guests. Most houses in this price range cannot do that. Upstairs the primary bedroom sits with two more and a hall bath.

Beyond the layout, the houses carry updated kitchens with oak cabinetry, marble counters and breakfast bars, dining rooms with generous seating, and decks off the kitchen onto fully fenced backyards with real room to use. Attached garages with interior access are standard. Lots here have the depth you would expect from a 1979 build rather than a modern one.

Forty-five years in, what has been replaced is what separates two of these houses, and listings here are specific about it — roofs, heating and air, and updated baths all appear on their own timelines. Some of these homes have been carefully kept and others are honest that they need a buyer's vision and some cosmetic work. Both come to market here, and in a community this small a single well-maintained house listing is a real event rather than one option among several. Dresden Downs does not turn over often.

On the address: this end of the township carries a Sicklerville 08081 mailing address, which is a post office rather than a municipality. Dresden Downs is in Gloucester Township, on Gloucester Township taxes and in Gloucester Township schools, with Black Horse Pike Regional for high school — listings here sometimes name that district by an older name, which is the same district. For more of this end of the township, see Gloucester Township 08081. Nearby, Country Oaks is the late-eighties community to the west and Cobblestone Farms is the township's lake community and the top of its detached market. Location is a genuine strength here — Route 42, the Atlantic City Expressway and the Gloucester Premium Outlets are all a few minutes out, with Philadelphia and the shore both a straightforward drive. The recently sold homes across Gloucester Township are the clearest read on where these are landing.
