Juniper Hills Homes for Sale
Detached three-bedroom colonials with garages and full basements, built in the 1990s off the White Horse Pike. Live from the MLS.
Living in Juniper Hills
Juniper Hills sits on the eastern side of Somerdale, on the tree-named streets that run off the White Horse Pike — Juniper, Cedar, Chestnut, Parkview and Oakland Avenues, with East Maiden Lane and East Crestwood crossing them. The far edge of the neighborhood runs toward the Cooper River and the woods along it. It is the quiet quarter of a borough that is already only a square and a half.
What separates this pocket from the rest of Somerdale is when it was built. Most of the borough went up mid-century — capes, ranchers and small colonials from the 1950s. Juniper Hills is 1990s infill, dropped into an established street grid, and it carries the features that decade brought with it.
The houses are detached two-story Colonials, three bedrooms, one to one and a half baths. They are efficiently sized rather than large, but the layouts are open — combination kitchen and dining, eat-in kitchens with table space, sunrooms added off the back on some of them. Attached garages with inside access and full basements are standard, and the basements run partially finished with laundry down there. Frame construction on block foundations. Natural gas forced air, central air, public water and public sewer.
The lots are narrow and deep, fully fenced on most, with decks and covered front porches. Several of these streets end in cul-de-sacs, so the houses at the end of a run get real privacy with woods or the neighboring grid behind them rather than a through road. Driveways hold three cars alongside the garage, which is not something the borough's older streets can offer.
Condition varies the way it does in any neighborhood thirty years on. Some of these have been taken forward — remodeled kitchens with granite and stainless, updated baths, new roofs, new HVAC, replacement windows — while others are closer to how they were built. That spread is most of the difference between one listing here and the next.
Somerdale's schools are a real part of the value. Sterling High School, the regional high school serving five surrounding towns, sits inside the borough rather than a drive away, and younger students attend Somerdale Park School through eighth grade. Few boroughs this small host their own regional high school.
The White Horse Pike is at the end of the street, Route 30 and Route 42 are minutes out, and the PATCO Speedline at Lindenwold puts Center City Philadelphia inside a straightforward ride. Buyers looking here should also see Warwick Gardens and White Horse Garden on the borough's established detached side, and Coopertowne Village if a garage and a finished basement matter more than a detached wall. For where these have actually been landing, see recently sold homes.
