Longport is the smallest and most exclusive of the four towns on Absecon Island, occupying the quiet southern tip below Margate, Ventnor, and Atlantic City. Nearly surrounded by water — ocean to the southeast, bay to the northwest, and the Great Egg Harbor Inlet wrapping the southern end — it's a small residential borough where tourist-free beaches and open water define the pace. It all adds up to a place that feels a world away from the boardwalk energy to the north.

Longport's single-family market is where the town's reputation is made. Many of its homes are custom new construction on some of the most expensive lots on the Jersey Shore — luxury beachfront properties pushing right to the edge of the sand, and bayfront homes with private docks and direct inlet access. Alongside them sit the classic two- and three-story shore cottages that have defined the town for generations, so the streetscape ranges from restored vintage charm to sleek, elevated new construction built for the modern buyer.

On the condo side, Longport has four well-known buildings — Seaview Condos, Ocean Plaza, Ocean Bay, and Costa Videre. Longport is also the one Absecon Island town whose students don't attend Atlantic City High School — since the 2014–15 school year, the borough's high-school students have attended Ocean City High School, just across the inlet.
