Hermitage is a townhome community in Voorhees Township built in 1996, laid out along a single curving street — Hermitage Drive — that loops off Main Street at the edge of the Voorhees Town Center district. One street is the entire community, which makes it small, easy to know, and easy to miss if you are only searching by town.

The specifications are what set this community apart, and they are not what most buyers expect from attached housing. These homes run roughly 1,860 to 2,370 square feet, with three bedrooms, two-car garages and full finished basements — and the bath count runs to three full baths in some plans, not two and a half. That combination puts Hermitage at the top of the township's attached market rather than in the middle of it. A buyer comparing this to a two-bedroom garden condo elsewhere in Voorhees is not comparing like with like; these are family-sized houses that happen to share a wall.

Inside, the plans are built around volume. Soaring cathedral ceilings in the great room, a turning staircase off a two-story foyer, bay windows, gas or wood-burning fireplaces, eat-in kitchens with center islands and forty-two-inch cabinetry, main-floor laundry, and a primary suite with a sitting area, a walk-in and an en-suite bath with a double vanity. The finished basements are the flexible square footage — wet bars, home theaters, offices, gyms and music rooms all turn up in listings here — and they are a large part of why these homes live so much bigger than their footprint suggests. Decks off the kitchen and underground utilities complete a community that was planned rather than filled in.

Location is the other half of the pitch. Hermitage sits at Main Street and Centennial Boulevard, immediately beside the shopping, dining and services of Voorhees Town Center, with Route 73 and the highways a short drive out and Virtua Voorhees nearby. Low-maintenance ownership within walking distance of a retail core is an unusual thing to find in a township this suburban. Buyers weighing it should also see Main Street, Piazza and Promenade in the same pocket, along with the township's full condo and townhome inventory.

Schools are Voorhees Township for elementary and middle, then Eastern Regional High School through the Eastern Camden County Regional district. Because the community is one street and the homes are the size they are, listings appear here occasionally rather than continuously, and a buyer with Hermitage specifically in mind is better off watching than browsing.
