The single most important thing about this neighborhood is what sits inside it. Cherry Hill High School West is in Locustwood — the campus, the track and the athletic fields occupy the eastern end of the grid, off Chapel Avenue West. In a township where the first question about any address is East or West, this is the neighborhood where the answer is visible out the window. Listings here carry Cherry Hill High School West, and for a family who has decided which side of the township they want, that removes the guesswork entirely.

The housing is the widest-ranging of any Cherry Hill neighborhood its size. Locustwood built out from about 1950 into the late 1970s, and the forms run the whole mid-century catalog — Ranch/Rambler, Raised Ranch, Split Level, Colonial, Traditional and Cape Cod, often on the same street. Bedroom counts run three to six. That is not a builder's plan book; that is three decades of separate construction on a grid that was platted early and filled in as lots sold.

Which makes Locustwood genuinely unusual in practical terms. The same neighborhood holds compact single-floor ranchers at the entry end and substantial colonials with double the square footage at the top, and the range between them is the widest in the 08002 section. Buyers who want one floor will find the ranch home searches well supplied here, and buyers who need real size do not have to leave the neighborhood to find it. It is also one of the few pockets where the bottom of the market still reaches into the township's more affordable searches while the top competes with anywhere on this side of Cherry Hill.

A boundary note worth knowing. Chapel Avenue West frontage addresses turn up in the MLS under Locustwood and under other subdivision names, which is the usual pattern where a neighborhood fronts a main road that predates it — listing agents enter whichever name they know. Haddonfield Road runs the western edge past the retail strip, Erlton sits south across Chapel Avenue, and Colwick and Barlow are the other West-side neighborhoods buyers tour alongside this one.

Schools are Cherry Hill Township Public Schools. Location is as central as Cherry Hill gets — Haddonfield Road puts you at the Cherry Hill Mall and the Route 70 corridor in a couple of minutes, Route 38 is just north, and Haddonfield's downtown is a short drive south. The recently sold homes across the township are the clearest read on where this tier actually settles.
