Northwoods Homes for Sale

Large late-sixties and seventies houses on wooded lots east of Kingston, backing to I-295 — live from the MLS.

Living in Northwoods

Northwoods sits in the 08034 section of Cherry Hill Township, east of Kingston Drive and running back toward the I-295 corridor. The streets are Greenvale Road, Clark Drive, Carlton Road, Holden Avenue, Wade Drive, Gardner Road, Logan Drive, Hart Road, Park Road and Deer Road. The eastern edge backs onto the wooded band along the highway, so those lots have trees behind them rather than neighbors, and the layout runs on curves and cul-de-sacs.

The housing here came late and came large. Northwoods went up between 1969 and 1975, a full decade after the split-level neighborhoods that define most of this ZIP, and it shows in the product: four and five bedrooms, two-and-a-half to four baths, two-story layouts running well past 2,700 square feet. Forms are Colonial, Traditional and Contemporary, with a Mediterranean and a Colonial Tudor in the mix — the seventies catalog rather than the fifties one. Garages are standard here, which is not true a few streets west.

That puts Northwoods near the top of the 08034 market. Buyers who have toured Kingston Estates next door and found the mid-fifties bath counts too tight usually end up here or in Knollwood across the township — same instinct, same need for square footage, different decade. The larger-acreage listings township-wide are where the comparable wooded ground turns up.

Now the thing that actually matters most about this neighborhood, and it is unusual. Northwoods sits on the boundary between Cherry Hill High School East and Cherry Hill High School West — listings here carry both. In a township where East or West is the first question asked about any address, a neighborhood that splits is a real planning issue rather than a footnote. If the high school assignment matters to you, verify it on the specific address; do not assume it from the street or from the house next door, and do not assume the neighborhood name settles it. It does not.

A second practical trap, smaller but costly. Greenvale Road appears in the MLS both as one word and as two — Greenvale and Green Vale. It is one street. A search keyed to either spelling alone returns part of the picture, which is exactly the kind of thing that makes a buyer conclude nothing is for sale on a street where something is. The same pattern shows up on a handful of Cherry Hill streets, and this is one of the worse ones because Greenvale carries a good share of the neighborhood's housing.

Schools are Cherry Hill Township Public Schools. Chapel Avenue runs along the north end toward the I-295 interchange, Kings Highway North sits west, and Route 70 with the Turnpike interchange is a couple of minutes south — a genuinely fast commute in every direction, with the highway proximity being the trade-off for the wooded lots. Barclay is just south across Route 70. The recently sold homes across the township are the clearest read on where this tier actually settles.

East and West.

The line runs through here.
