Living in Tall Oaks

Tall Oaks was built through the mid to late 1990s in Williamstown, Monroe Township, with a newer home or two added on later. The streets are Senna Drive, Biden Lane, Endingo Avenue, Snowberry Drive and Waverly Court. Four bedrooms is the floor here, not the ceiling, and the houses are colonials with traditionals and a contemporary in the mix. Public water and public sewer.

What makes Tall Oaks unusual for Williamstown is how consistent it is. The lots sit right around a half acre and stay there — there is very little spread from one address to the next. Every home has a garage and a full basement. That sounds unremarkable until you look at what else is in the township: Scotland Run, from a decade earlier, runs anywhere from a fifth of an acre to better than half and has plenty of houses with no basement at all. In Tall Oaks you are not gambling on which side of the community you land in.

These are also big houses. Four bedrooms with two and a half baths is the common configuration, and the community runs up from there — there is at least one home here well north of that. Combine the size with the half-acre lots and Tall Oaks sits at the upper end of the Williamstown resale market, which is a short list. It is the kind of address people move to within the township rather than out of it.

The closest comparison in town is Stockton Run, built about five years later with the same garage-and-basement standard, though on somewhat smaller lots. Hunter Woods and Schoolhouse Gate are the other established four-bedroom communities worth walking. Schools are Monroe Township throughout, which means Williamstown High School — one district for the entire township, so there is no sending-district question to untangle here the way there is elsewhere in Gloucester County.
