Large 1968 colonials on wooded acre-plus lots off Kresson Road — live from the MLS.
Charleston Riding sits at the top of the detached market in Cherry Hill Township, on the wooded ground north of Kresson Road in 08003. East Riding Drive carries most of it, with Box Hill Drive, Lane of Trees, Mews Lane, Mews Court and Spring Mill Lane filling in around it. No association and no gate — these are large houses on large private lots, which is the whole proposition here.
Look at it from the air and the neighborhood nearly disappears. The tree canopy has closed over most of these lots, so what you see is woodland with roof lines showing through it, and driveways running back a long way from the street. That is sixty years of growth on lots that were drawn generously to begin with, and it is the single thing about Charleston Riding that cannot be reproduced anywhere at any price. A builder can put up a house of this size on a cleared lot tomorrow. Nobody can deliver the trees. If acreage is what you are after, the Cherry Hill homes on an acre or more search is the wider net, but this is one of the few neighborhoods where that describes most of the street rather than one exceptional listing.
The street names are not decoration either. A "mews" is where hunting hawks and hounds were kept; a "riding" is a ride cut through woodland; Box Hill is hunt country — and the neighborhood itself is Charleston Riding. Whoever laid this out in the late sixties was building a specific picture of a place, and the names, the lot sizes and the woods all belong to the same idea. Buyers notice it on the drive in even when they cannot say why.
The housing matches. Nearly all of Charleston Riding went up in 1968, with one earlier ranch on the Kresson Road edge, and Colonial is the dominant form alongside Contemporary and Transitional plans. Four bedrooms is the baseline and five is common, with bath counts running from two full up to four-and-a-half — an unusual amount of bathroom for this vintage, and a sign these were built as move-up houses rather than starter stock. Basements throughout, garages standard. The Kresson Road frontage also carries a 1961 ranch, which is a reminder that the through-road addresses and the interior-street addresses are different purchases even inside one subdivision name.
Inventory here is genuinely occasional. Houses this size on lots this size do not turn over quickly, owners tend to be settled, and a buyer who wants specifically Charleston Riding should be watching rather than browsing. The neighbors worth walking while you wait are Charleston Woods, which shares the name and the wooded character, and Kresson Woods further along the same road. A number of the deeper lots here carry in-ground pools, which on a lot this private is a different thing from a pool in a quarter-acre yard.
Schools are Cherry Hill Township Public Schools, with Cherry Hill High School East across the addresses in this pull. Kresson Road runs west toward Haddonfield and east toward Route 73 and the Turnpike, and Route 70 is a few minutes north, so the isolation is visual rather than practical. The recently sold homes across the township are the clearest read on where the top of this market actually settles.
