Palmyra is a small, dense borough sitting right on the Delaware at the foot of the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge, and its defining feature as a market is something most South Jersey towns cannot offer: a real supply of attached homes at prices that have largely disappeared elsewhere. If you are trying to own rather than rent, and the number in your head starts with a two, Palmyra is one of the few places left in Burlington County where that conversation is still realistic.

Palmyra Harbour is the engine of the market here. It is a large community of interior and end-of-row homes along Harbour Drive, two bedrooms, a bit over a thousand square feet, and it turns over constantly — there is almost always something available, which is not true of most communities this affordable. Riverfront is the newer and somewhat dearer attached option, laid out on Riverfront Drive, Ebbtide, Vesper Circle, Juniper and Blue Heron, and it appeals to a slightly different buyer. Between the two, Palmyra has a genuinely deep townhome and condo market rather than a handful of units, and it is the reason there is real inventory here under $300,000.

The detached side is the older borough. Palmyra Gardens covers the neighborhoods around Temple Boulevard, West Henry Street and Delaware Avenue. Morgan Heights, Park South and West End are the smaller named pockets. Beyond them, most of Palmyra is simply its grid — Broad, Market and Front Streets, Cinnaminson and Leconey and Parry Avenues, and the numbered West streets running back from the river. Those are twins and detached houses on town lots, some modest and some substantial, with four, five and six bedroom homes scattered through the older stock and a fair number of single-story places as well.

Location is doing a lot of work in this borough. The Tacony-Palmyra Bridge drops you into Northeast Philadelphia in minutes, the RiverLine runs the riverfront up toward Trenton and down toward Camden, and Route 73 is right there. Palmyra Cove Nature Park sits on the river at the edge of town, a few hundred acres of trail and tidal marsh that most people in the county have never gotten around to visiting. For a commuter who wants a low cost of entry and a short trip into the city, the math here is hard to beat.

Palmyra runs its own school district from preschool through twelfth grade, which is notable for a borough of this size. Delaware Avenue School handles preschool, Charles Street School on West Charles Street covers the elementary grades, and Palmyra Middle School and Palmyra High School share the campus on West 5th Street, with the middle school covering seventh and eighth and the high school ninth through twelfth. Palmyra High dates to 1895 and its teams are the Panthers, with a long rivalry against Burlington City. Worth knowing that Palmyra is a receiving district: Riverton and Beverly City both send their high school students here, so a graduating class draws from three boroughs.
