Surrey Lake Homes for Sale
An established 1990s community in Washington Township — explore the latest live from the MLS.
Living in Surrey Lake
Surrey Lake was built through the 1990s — 1991 into 2000 — in Washington Township, on the Sewell side. Four bedrooms is the standard, two and a half to three baths, colonials with contemporaries mixed in, and garages and full basements on nearly every home.
The street names are worth a moment because whoever chose them actually knew horses. Equitation Way, Cavesson Trail, Filly Way, Foal Trail, Trakenner Walk and Galoubet Walk — a cavesson is a piece of bridle hardware, a Trakehner is a German warmblood, and Galoubet was one of the great show-jumping stallions. That is not a developer flipping through a book of pleasant words. Fox Hollow Lane, Alton Way, Danbury Lane, Lambourn and Meadowview Drive fill out the community — Lambourn being an English racehorse-training village.
Washington Township has a habit of this. Colts Neck runs Long Bow, Saddlebrook and Bridle Lane; Hunt Club runs Paddock and Shetland. Surrey Lake is the most thorough of the three.
The lots run from about a fifth of an acre to two fifths — good suburban ground rather than the three-quarter-acre parcels at Shadowbrook or Silver Springs. What you are buying here is a large, well-built 1990s house in a community that has held its character, not acreage.
Two things to check on the specific listing. Surrey Lake carries an association fee, which is uncommon for detached homes in this township — only Hunters Chase and Hill Crest also do — and what it covers is not spelled out the same way on every record. And at least one address here shows a septic arrangement rather than the public sewer serving the rest.
Schools are Washington Township for the entire township, which means Washington Township High School — one district throughout, so there is no sending-district question here. The recently sold homes are the best read on where this end of the market sits.
Equitation. Galoubet.
One is a discipline, one a stallion.
