Living in Wedgewood Farms

Wedgewood Farms was built in the late 1970s in Washington Township, on the Sewell side, along Shire Drive and Lipizzan Road — both horse breeds, putting this in company with Surrey Lake, Colts Neck and Hunt Club among the township's equestrian-named developments. Three and four bedrooms, two to three and a half baths, colonials throughout.

The important distinction is with plain Wedgewood, the large neighborhood it shares a name with. Every home in Wedgewood Farms has a garage and a full basement. Wedgewood proper, built in the same years, has garages nearly everywhere and basements almost nowhere. Same era, same name root, different build standard — and the prices reflect it. Wedgewood Farms sells for meaningfully more.

The lots also run larger, in the range of a quarter acre to a third, versus the wide and unpredictable spread across Wedgewood. This is a small, consistent community: same vintage, same style, same standard, on comparable ground.

Worth knowing that the township has four communities with Wedgewood in the name — this one, plain Wedgewood, Wedgewood Forest and Wedgewood Greens. A search on the name alone returns all of them, and they are not interchangeable.

Very little comes up here. Schools are Washington Township for the entire township, which means Washington Township High School — one district throughout, so there is no sending-district question. The recently sold homes are the best read on where this end of the market sits.
